Is Hormone Therapy Worth The Risk?
Many health risks were discovered in the use of hormone therapy to treat menopausal symptoms in women. As the female body grows older, it slows down the production of progesterone and estrogen. The lack of these hormones can result in mild symptoms of heat flashes and irritability to severe symptoms of deep depression and radical mood swings. The traditional treatment for this ailment was hormone therapy.
Some women responded very well to this treatment and were extremely grateful that there was relief available. However; in 2002, it was determined in the Women’s Health Initiative clinical trial that the health risks of hormone therapy outweighed the benefits. As result, many doctors would not prescribe it or female patient would discontinue the use of hormone therapy on their own.

The panel experts also concluded that the risk of contracting breast cancer returned to the normal roughly two years after the patient discontinued usages of the hormonal therapy drugs.

Prescription Medications For Osteoporosis
These days there are many drug treatments available for osteoporosis. The different options can be confusing even if you are under the care of an excellent physician. Many of us want to be active in our treatment planning. This easy guide will give you an overview of osteoporosis drug therapies. Some of these drugs are prescribed to both osteoporosis patients and people with a low bone density condition called “osteopenia”.
Knowing how bones work is a key to understanding osteoporosis medications. Bones cells are constantly breaking down and being replaced by new cells. Bone-forming cells are called “osteoblasts” and bone-destroying cells are called “osteoclasts”. When we have osteoporosis, bone breakdown is faster than bone growth. Medications help turn this process around by slowing bone breakdown or promoting bone growth.
